Napenkara, Burkina Faso
The Community
4,000 villagers live in this rural community in western Burkina Faso, West Africa
In-Country Partner
Future for Faso Children (FFC)
The Need
Community members need a source of potable water to eliminate the 3 to 5 mile walk or bicycle ride to and from the nearest well or river.
Additional drinking water wells will reduce the currently high incidence of diarrhea, cholera and typhoid which can lead to death and will eliminate the need for children to miss class in order to fetch water
EWB-CPC Involvement
2012 – Began investigating the feasibility of installing two water-supply wells in the village and the ability of the village to maintain the water supply over the long term using a Water Board
2013 – Water project put on hold because FFC proceeded with the first well using funding obtained through Rotary International
2014 – Affirmed that the FFC partnership with EWB-CPC would pursue a second well
